Hall of Fame: Walter Mills

Walter Mills scored 34 goals in 430 appearances over 11 seasons at Solitude and was inducted to the John McCredy McAlery Hall of Fame in May 2019.

A key performer in the middle of the park, Mills – who first joined the Club as a teenager – featured in 42 of the team’s 47 fixtures across all competitions during the iconic 1978/79 campaign, with one of his four strikes coming from the penalty spot when the Reds saw off Coleraine in the quarter-finals of the Irish Cup.

Part of the first Cliftonville line-up to play in Europe when French giants FC Nantes Atlantique visited for a Cup Winners’ Cup clash a few months after that famous Cup victory over Portadown, none of the famous 79ers made more overall appearances than Walter, who remains a legendary figure among Reds fans of all ages.
