| Mark Holland saw a looping header almost deceive goalkeeper Shane Suplle before Scannell hit the bar following a superb low cross from Stephen O'Neill. The woodwork contrived against the home team just a minute later when Danny Haynes made use of the inside of the post to make it 3-0 from the acutest of angles. Jordan Rhodes should have made it 4-0 on 39 minutes when he stepped up for a penalty after being tripped in the area by David McAlinden, but goalkeeper John Connolly guessed the right way to make the save - which Club statisticians will be interested to note is the first time he has repelled a spot-kick in Cliftonville colours. | Cliftonville's signed off their European preparations with a 7-0 thumping at the hands of an impressive Ipswich Town at Solitude this evening. Jim Magilton's Championship hopefuls could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty en route to a comfortable success, while the Reds had a Mark Holland header ruled out for offside while Chris Scannell struck the crossbar. Ipswich started brightly an opened the scoring with a wonderful Gary Roberts volley on nine minutes and the same player provided the ammunition for Alan Lee to nod home the second. |
